Oysters and Onions

by
Michael Riley

caring for his sick mother
has taken its toll
broccoli for breakfast
poetry instead of “playboy”
dead frogs under his pillow
last night he took a bath in cat piss
today he sharpened his teeth on the eaves

mary from the clinic says he's totally mad
and recommends a lobotomy
kate says we should sell him
as halftime entertainment
i told them they were both sick in the head
a diet of oysters and onions is all he needs
