Pierced

by

Tracie McBride

Grandpa mutters,
There’s mysterious goings-on next door.
He doesn’t understand
the neighbor’s
electric-blue hair,
death-black lips,
metal-skewered flesh;
one man’s beauty
is another’s
mutilation.
He tires of listening
to her screams,
sound swirling
beyond
the bounds
of concrete walls.
A door opens,
a skull splits,
instead of blood,
Light flows.
