Autumn

As I watch trees golden turn
Pulling summer deep
Into wooden fortresses
Not dying--only soon asleep
Leaving a last glance of beauty

Like our love
Which drew its strength, too
From the frail earth of autumn's laughter

I remember with joy
A time when child eyes watched in wonder
While new leaves
Cupped eager hearts together
And we ran
Hand in hand
Through wild forests of green

Whispering "tomorrow
Tomorrow
Tomorrow we will dance"

Unaware there might be blessings
Of another
And another
And another Spring.
