How Ordinary It Is (Tanka)

How ordinary it is
to lick this honey
that dripped on my hand.
But then, at the first tasting,
thoughts of you flood over me.





DAVID KIRKLAND lives in St. Louis, and after careers as a banker and schoolteacher now develops senior housing. His tanka have been accepted by Lynx, In the Light, Bottle Rockets, and Tanka Splendor. Short fiction works have been included in the anthologies Cup of Comfort, Tales from the Crackerbarrel Cafe, and The World's Shortest Stories of Love and Death.
