The Garden

by
Isabelle Carruthers

       wired
 insomniac sunrise
 a refuge from dreams
 of walls too close,
 rooms full of flowers,
and angels that litter the meadow
        pale ghosts, weary of rain

mad for daylight
 I write poetry with crayons
 in the colors of dawn
 that recall our once garden
 of marigold and wisteria
        strewn across your bed

Isabelle Carruthers attended Tulane University where she majored in Anthropology &  English before moving on to real-life where she then encountered motherhood, laundry and a full-time job that has nothing whatsoever to do with her studies. She writes poetry and short fiction in her new hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana.
