Hello,
I'm Barbara Quinn, the Publisher and Managing Editor of The Rose & Thorn.
We hope you enjoy our e-zine and take the time to wander through the wide range of stories, essays and poetry we've collected from all over the world for your interest and enjoyment.
I'm a native New Yorker, born in the Bronx, and raised on Long Island and in Westchester. I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for three years and currently split my time between Rockland County, NY and Bradley Beach, NJ with my husband, Tom. I have one son, Bret.
A diehard Yankees fan, I love to travel and have taken my Yankees cap to 47 states and 4 continents. When I was 19, I hitched across Europe with a backpack. I owned a motorcycle for a time, and a pink suede biker jacket. I practiced law for ten years, including stints as a Town Attorney and Assistant County Attorney, where I spent time writing everything from zoning ordinances to manure pile rules. I've been a process server, lingerie sales clerk, cocktail waitress and postal worker. I held several reporting and editing jobs, including the position of Features Editor at Strictly Scarsdale, and freelance reporter for The Scarsdale Inquirer.
My short story Crab Lines was nominated for a Pushcart prize and was selected for the 2006 Best of the Net Anthology. Writer's Digest, The Melic Review, Storyteller and The Ledge are a few of the publications that have also honored or published my short fiction. As always, I'm at work on my latest novel. You can sample some of my work, including the first chapters of my latest novels, 36C, and Slings and Arrows, by clicking on the links below.
Please take the time to meet the talented individuals who make up The Rose & Thorn.
