How hopeful I looked. Deliriously happy. Seems like yesterday. Do you
remember?
You ran to get the camera when I told you about the baby. You wanted
to take a picture of your happy wife.
I had been sad for some time. I missed the boys after years of
bandaging their scrapes and filling their bellies, but most of all,
loving them-- my true crime. Your sons. They were never mine.
What do they say? "The grass is always greener on the other side."
So,
they cut their ties with a vengeful ax. I longed for our lawn to
prosper.
And then the news of a child within me filled us with joy and the
promise of love and belonging.
That day another promise was given. The promise to nurture the hungry
children of the world. LIVE AID, it was called. We watched the broadcast
when a young group from Ireland took the stage. The singer held the
crowd with heartfelt lyrics of freedom and faith, and most of all, love.
In yesterday's newspaper, I read of that Irish singer. He has kept his
pledge and continues to champion the children of the world.
Today our golden child leaves for college. She wants to do
something brilliant with her life. She continues to fill us with joy.
Let's take a picture to remember this day. Outside, where our grass
is green.
