Words get married.

They settle in a dim suburb,
take up housekeeping and dull jobs.
At least they're together.

Years later, they want children,
and we listen in
on the noise of their bedsprings.

James Owens lives in La Porte, Indiana, with his wife and three children. Some of his poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Pebble Lake Review, Lilliput Review, and Lily. His first full-length collection of poems, An Hour is the Doorway, is scheduled for publication this fall by Black Lawrence Press.
